Wow, I am alive!

Dear Ones,

Wow, I am alive
Aliveness is just like this
Aliveness just is

I made this haiku for you!

I’ve been thinking about real, human aliveness in the age of rapidly all-encompassing AI everything.

At the science museum this weekend, I stood in the heat-seeking camera and saw my body heat reflected on the screen. I felt so comforted by the red and orange glow reflected back at me - proof of my aliveness! I didn’t really realize I was doubting it before that moment, but its undeniability on the screen made me almost feel like crying.

What am I feeling so much of the time, if not alive? Distracted? Afraid? Alienated? Lost in my thoughts and plans and stories?

If that’s how you are feeling right now, let this be a moment to remember:

You are alive.

Breathe. Feel the heat of your body. Notice what you are hearing, touching, tasting, smelling and seeing.

This is what aliveness feels like.

NOTES FROM MAY:

I taught about faith in a bunch of places this month - from Columbia Law School Commencement Week, to the Islamic Center at NYU, to Or Ha Lev. It was very much on my heart and mind. If you would like to hear the core message and practice the meditations: You can see the Islamic Center version here.

We also closed registration for our Listening Lab Facilitator Training taking place in just a few weeks! We have an AMAZING group of people from several different sectors who will be coming to NYC to strengthen their skills and support their communities. Can’t wait.

I have a brand new piece published through Happier (formerly Ten Percent Happier) called "It's Not About The Cookie" and discussing my favorite subject – desire. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Sending Love,

Yael

How to Live a Magical Life Dear Ones, On Friday, I had a rich and fun conversation with therapist and meditation teacher, Kirat Randhawa. It was the first conversation in a series I am curating - called Desire and Dharma for Instagram and Youtube. I asked Kirat, "Why should people investigate their deepest desires and longings? Why does it matter?" Her response was that if we want to live lives of depth, joy, and magic, we need to be in touch with deepest swells and pulls of desire within us....

"The Erotic is the Antidote to Death" This line is another great one from the amazing Esther Perel. What does it mean? It means that when we study our deepest desires and longings, we come alive. We experience more daily joy. We become who we are meant to be. Why is that? Because, at the deepest level, the desire that animates us and moves through us isn't really "ours." It doesn't belong to us. It is Life's desire, moving within us, like a river. Like the breath, breathing us. Desire aches...

When Desires Clash I like the perks of my stable job, but I keep dreaming of quitting and starting my own business. I love my committed partner, but I miss the excitement of dating new people. I really want to get fit and go to the gym every day, and yet my bed calls to me for more sleep each morning. Have you been caught in the tug-of-war between two powerful, competing desires? Each side pleading with you to follow it for more comfort, excitement, safety or joy? How do you handle it? Most...
